Filmmaker John Michael McCarthy has lived a fascinating life in cult film. His 8mm masterpiece TEENAGE TUPELO (1995), co-produced by cult film legend David F. Friedman, was the first new film released on Mike Vraney’s Something Weird Video. JMM, an accomplished cartoonist published by FANTAGRAPHICS, also provided original artwork for SWV trailer compilations.
Film Screening: DAMSELVIS: DAUGHTER OF HELVIS (1994)
JMM’s fist film DAMSELVIS is a surreal Elvisploitation epic shot on video in Memphis and adapted from JMM’s comic book of the same name. Run Time: 63 Minutes. Followed by a live Q&A with writer-director JMM as well as other cast/crew.

Actor, musician and frequent JMM/Gallagher collaborator Paul Woodard will also be appearing at DF5 con and the DF5 afterparty (8/24), as well as TEENAGE TUPELO screening (8/23).
Woodard appears in JMM’s DAMSELVIS, TEENAGE TUPELO, THE SORE LOSERS; as well as Gallagher’s GOROTICA and GORE WHORE. As a musician (under the name POLI SCI CLONE), Woodard performed at the original world premiere of DAMSELVIS at the legendary Barrister’s tavern in January 1994.
