Sixth Annual VHS Convention in Indianapolis, IN
HUGH GALLAGHER, underground SOV filmmaker & independent publisher, created his character DRACULINA at the age of 12 in a self-published fanzine. Appearing in Gallagher’s subsequent print media, she also served as the namesake of his independent publishing/distribution outfit(s), DRACULINA PUBLISHING and DRACULINA DIRECT.
DF is overjoyed to share the original event art for Dead Formats 6, featuring a newly-resurrected Draculina drawn by Gallagher for the first time in over a decade(!)
Gallagher—the writer/director/producer behind the infamous shot-on-video GORE TRILOGY will be appearing as the 2025 Guest of Honor at Dead Formats 6.
The trilogy, consisting of GORGASM (1990), GOROTICA (1993) and GORE WHORE (1994), was made in Edwardsville, IL and Memphis, TN for a total budget of ~$15,000. The series is often referred to by fans as the “American NEKROMANTIK.”
An essential figure in the mail-order distribution of obscure film/VHS-related print and comics, Gallagher’s publications served as a hub connecting a generation of SOV filmmakers. Draculina Magazine in particular provided a rare peek into the production of not only his own films, but other monumental titles in the genre as well.

The 2025 Dead Formats Zine-Programme turns 5 this year and we’re celebrating with a tribute to Hugh Gallagher’s DRACULINA magazine!
Themes this year include DRACULINA Magazine, Hugh’s fantastic artwork and his character Draculina, his SOV ‘Gore Trilogy’ (GORGASM, GOROTICA and GORE WHORE); the films of Tina Krause and more general themes of vampire women and, necrophilia.
